My Reflection

In the beginning of the semester when we first started this class I thought this was going to be one of the hardest classes I had taken based on my writing and reading skills at the time. When we first had to read “Arts of the Contact Zone” by Pratt I honestly felt so lost trying to answer the questions of the first couple of assignments that we had for the writing. Since that time, I have been able to greatly improve on my reading, writing, and research. By doing so I have been able to meet the course goals of this class. I was able to revise two projects that we have had during the class. The first project I revised was writing project 1 and the second project I was able to revise was my WIX page.

For my first writing project of my film review on The Barkley Marathons: The Race That Eats It’s Young I was able to fix some of the things that I did wrong during the first time I turned the assignment in. I used a ton of first person in this paper and I made sure to rephrase all of the sentences that had first person in them. I also fixed all of the things that were not in proper MLA format like when I said, “ ‘The information that exists says that mailing in an application, which is subject to changing each year, and a non-refundable registration fee of $1.60 is all it takes to enter. However, when and how is a well-kept secret (Dawson).’ One thing that I did find interesting were the different food strategies that all of the runners decided to make.”  I ended up fixing this in my final revision with, “ ‘The information that exists says that mailing in an application, which is subject to changing each year, and a non-refundable registration fee of $1.60 is all it takes to enter. However, when and how is a well-kept secret’ (Dawson). One thing that was interesting were the different food strategies that all of the runners decided to make.” This was a mistake that I made numerous times throughout wp1 and over the semester I was able to learn the proper way how to shape, revise, and edit writing correctly which is one of the course goals.

One of the biggest things that helped me meet the course goals of this class was the Unbranded documentary. By watching this documentary and taking the notes I did I was able to use that knowledge to help me in my wp1 over my film review. Using those same ideas helped me find and know what information I needed to be able to write a clear and strong thesis as well as use the correct sources effectively to put my ideas on paper. The last course reading that helped me on wp1 and all of my writing projects was the article by Daniel Berehulak. This article showed me how I needed to use writing strategies and how to incorporate them into my writing easily. By reading this article it made me realize that my writing style goes well with in media res and using with setting.

The second project I fixed was making a final copy of my WIX page. Before my final draft I had only put in a couple of pictures and every page had different colors that didn’t go together for all of my writing projects. Now it is more appealing and easier to look at. I also made the pages match, added my final wp1 draft, added a Works Cited page, and added buttons to make it easier to navigate from page to page.

I can truly say that I’ve learned so many things from this class that will benefit me moving forward. From my writing greatly improving to my new and improved research skills. Compared to the very first assignment and this reflection that I’m writing now I have gained so much from this class and all of this has helped me meet the course goals throughout the class and this is shown in wp1 and my WIX page.
