For my Immersion experience I went to Eli Lilly on September 21st and ran my first ever 5k. It was the Connect 2 Help 5k presented at Eli Lilly. What i noticed is that the running field was way more diversified than i expected. From kids under ten to grand parents above 70 everyone in the field of runners had different experience levels and different reasons to be there. There were people there with family (I ran with my mom) and people there running by themselves. The route itself was around the Eli Lilly campus. It started on their 1/4 mile track in the middle and then it just looped in and out of their walkways, sidewalks, parking lots, and miniature parks. The experience for me was way better than i expected. For my first official 5k I was able to run 8:55 per mile time or 27:47:9 as my finish time. It was way more humid outside than i anticipated for an 9:00 am start time. I also forgot a piece of gum so my mouth started to get dry right after the first mile. The first moment i will write about is me realizing I ran the first mile faster than I wanted to and me starting to think about the next two miles and if i was going to be able to finish. The second moment I want to talk about is around the second mile and me having a quick interaction with two people giving water cups out. I think my third moment will be running that final 1/2 mile to the finish line and what was going through my head and how it felt making it to the finish line. I think my favorite part of my immersion experience was seeing my mom make it to the finish line and being able to embrace her as we both were exhausted.
